The Inspiration Behind the Embers Jewelry Collection

The Inspiration Behind the Embers Jewelry Collection

My Ember jewelry collection was inspired by a walk on Konza Prairie a day after a prescribed burn.  The ground was a dark ash and there were glimpses of smoldering embers from some fallen limbs that were still burning.  I loved the contrast of the orange against the dark black ash.

I created this collection using bright orange carnelian gemstones, oxidizing the sterling silver to create a dark background, and polishing the tops of the grass or cedar branches to bring out the texture.  Each piece is made by hand and no two pieces will look exactly the same.

Controlled or prescribed burns are done to reduce invasive species and to promote healthy growth of the grasses.  It reminds me that I need to reduce my bad habits and to promote healthy growth in my life by allowing some fire to produce some beautiful orange embers.  Shedding the old, embracing the new.

How to Wear the Ember Collection

You may think that you need a coordinating orange outfit to wear the Ember collection.  That is not the case.  In fact, you may be surprised by the number of colors that goes well with orange.  Creams and browns with orange are a great combination.  Also contrasting colors like a navy blue make the orange gems really stand out.  Dark olive or forest green are other fabulous colors to contrast with orange.  Don't forget basics like black and gray.  With the silver texture, these would be great colors to wear with the Ember Collection.

I've started a Pinterest board with an orange fashion theme showing the different ways to incorporate orange into your wardrobe.  You can follow that board below.
